Angry and sad during corona period
In every profession and in every company, but also in private circumstances, we are currently dealing with the covid-19 virus. Everyone has to deal with corona in their own way.
When you run a practice for medical foot care, you have to deal with all kinds of rules. These rules have been tightened more and more over the years. Not a superfluous luxury, but when I have listened to all the press conferences of Mister Rutte and Mister De Jonge over the past year, I get very angry and sad. All in all, the ( medical ) pedicurist has been mentioned once in all those information sessions and all the talk shows.
Where are we as foot carers, where are those thousands of pedicures? We who keep an eye on all risk groups (e.g. diabetics, rheumatism patients, cancer patients) and provide the necessary care? We who assist the regular care for the optimal foot care that so many in the Netherlands need.
Years ago, we applied to Minister Jorritsma to be included in the BIG register. No, was her answer. Now, years later and with even more education, and instead of a branch diploma we now also have a state diploma in our pocket, we have applied again to Minister Ingrid van Engelshoven. Again a big NO for our group of medical foot care providers with a state certificate. Does this minister really think that we still paint our nails in a back room? Oh, how angry and disappointed I am.
Because we are still regarded as cosmetic aunts, I was unfortunately unable to see a number of clients with serious foot problems during the lockdown. So sad that one of my loyal customers was out of sight for 3 months and now has to miss a toe due to diabetes. Amputation of the toe costs the community 60,000 Euros. This is for hospitalisation, surgery, rehabilitation and fitted footwear etc. We could have saved this amount, for this one client alone, if we had been listed in the BIG register as full-fledged foot care providers and had been allowed to continue working during the lockdown. This makes me sad and angry.
